S.M.G. Bilderbuch - Heavy Machinegun Picture Book. This is a 1931 dated commercially produced manual for the students of the MG08. It contains 73 illustrations, each with a caption or explanation, plus an appendix.
Calling this a picture book is a little misleading, though that is the actual title of the book. This is an operator's manual with lots of great pictures showing each step of operation, with a description of each picture to explain the motions shown in the picture. It isn't just a book full of "look at the pretty gun" pictures.
Originally printed at about 4"High x 6-1/2"Wide, this book has been reformatted to include two pictures on each page instead of one, and enlarged to a printed size of 8-1/2"High x 7"Wide with 80 pages. This makes the book much easier to print, and easier means cheaper for the buyer. This manual has excellent pictures on disassembly, clearing stoppages, changing the barrel, and using the ruptured case extractor among others.
